History

The Institute of Maternal and Child Health of the College of Medicine was established in the year 2015 to promote research and postgraduate studies in the areas of maternal and child health. This was prompted by the deplorable morbidity and mortality statistics on pregnant women and children in the country. The programs of this intervention are targeted at forestalling further deterioration in the morbidity and mortality statistics. They will investigate maternal and child health from a multi-disciplinary perspective that integrates the life course, biological, demographic, epidemiological, developmental, environmental, behavioural and social characteristics that are unique to the health and well-being of women, children and their families.
